Apple highlights indie games with new section on iTunes App Store

Apple has included a new section for indie games on the iTunes App Store, termed as "Indie Game Showcase" which is said to highlight the indie game developers.
"Often made up of just a few dedicated members, independent studios prove that what really matters is the size of your dream. In each Indie Game Showcase, we celebrate a popular game and its creative team, highlighting the developer's titles along with their favourite games from other studios," states theApple's Indie Game showcase page.
The first Indie Games Showcase, as spotted by Macstories, features Simogo, the developer of a popular game - Device 6. Device 6 is a narrative-based puzzle game and was a runner-up in 2013's Game of the Year award. Simogo is also known for Year Walk, another critically acclaimed game.
It is not clear as to how often the Cupertino firm will rotate the showcase. However, it is assumed that the showcases will change every week just like the other iTunes App Store sections.
Notably, there is a new independent Web-based game which has innumerable copies and derivatives doing the rounds of the Google Play store and iTunes App Store, called 2048. A numerical puzzle game, 2048 was created by 19-year old Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli.
Cirulli, on the app's GitHub page, admits 2048 is based on the Android and iOS game 1024! by Veewo Studios, and says it is conceptually similar to the Android and iOS game Threes! by Asher Vollmer. Both 1024! and Threes! have enjoyed their popularity on the app stores.
